Flashcards
Pelvic Binding — target area for maximal pressure
The greater trochanters of the femurs.
Adult IO Therapy — preferred site
Humeral head: the insertion site is the greater tuberosity of the humeral head.
Adult IO Therapy — proximal tibia site
Alternative site just medial to the tibial tuberosity, on the flat portion of the proximal tibia (2 finger widths below the patella and 1 finger width medial).
Chest Decompression — needle direction
Direct the needle just over the top of the appropriate rib at a 90-degree angle to the chest wall to avoid intercostal nerves and vessels, which are located on the inferior portion of the rib border.
Adult IO Therapy — distal tibia site
Alternative site located 2 finger breadths proximal to the medial malleolus.
12/15 Lead ECG — posterior electrode locations
V7: level with V6/C6 at the left posterior axillary line. V8: level with V6/C6 at the left midscapular line. V9: level with V6/C6 at the left spinal border.
12/15 Lead ECG — V1, V2 and V4 locations
V1: fourth intercostal space at the right border of the sternum. V2: fourth intercostal space at the left border of the sternum. V4: fifth intercostal space at the midclavicular line.
Pediatric IO (EZ-IO) — distal tibia site
Insertion site is located approximately 1 - 2cm (one finger width) proximal to the most prominent aspect of the medial malleolus. Palpate the anterior and posterior borders of the tibia to assure the insertion site is on the flat center aspect of the bone.

Alaska protocols — FAQ
Are Alaska's EMS protocols available offline?
Yes. Download the protocol set for your area once and every protocol, medication, and hospital is available with no signal — built for basements, rural calls, and dead zones.
Which protocol sets are available in Alaska?
The available protocol sets for Alaska are listed on this page with their formats and official sources. Coverage varies by set and does not necessarily include every area or agency. Check that a listed set applies to your agency before downloading.
Is Pocket Protocols official, or affiliated with Alaska?
No — Pocket Protocols is an independent app and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any EMS authority. We bring Alaska's protocols into a faster, fully offline app and link the authority's own source for every set.
How do Alaska protocol updates reach the app?
When the EMS authority publishes a new version and it goes live in Pocket Protocols, the app refreshes automatically — crews are never working from a stale copy. We monitor official sources for changes every day.
